“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” - Hippocrates
As an adult, I have become much more aware of what I put into my body. While growing up, I spent years worrying about my weight and being afraid of “fat”. However, throughout my travels and experiences, I have started to understand the importance of good quality food.
While living in Europe, in cities full of delicious eateries, I found myself regularly meeting friends for breakfast. This was quite a cultural change as it was always about lunch or dinner in the UK. Now that I am back in London, life is pretty hectic, especially as I commute from Surrey to the Big Smoke for work. However, one thing that has stuck is my love for breakfast. In fact, I am uber grumpy if I don't have a decent brekkie in the morning!
On the flip side, as a commuter and a person always rushing, my bank balance has been known to seriously decline just from buying food. So I tried the cheaper option - cereal in the office. Even then, it was always a scramble to get hold of a clean bowl and cutlery. In any event, for both options, all I was doing was loading my body with processed food and artificial sugar. It was from this that Breakfast by Bella was born; my own sourced goodness in my own jar…quick, easy, portable and utterly nomilicious!
Through my blog, I share my ditsy ramblings ("morning ponders" and "evening wonders") as well as my breakfast ideas and recipes, which contain none of the nasties associated with refined sugars, artificial preservatives and colouring. Just simple, quick to make and portable nom nom.
I now realise that what you eat shouldn’t be a diet or a worry, but a lifestyle. As common medical conditions including stress, irritable bowel syndrome, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (just to name a few) become more recognised, I truly believe food can be your medicine.
Happy healthy eating!
